applying tattoo

Our tattoos generally last anything from 3 – 7 days. Below we have listed a few tips that can help to prolong the quality and longevity of yours:

  1. Location on the skin – obviously where you place the tattoo can’t really be helped if you’re wanting to test in a specific location. However, locations that are easily creased or rubbed – such as elbows / knees are best to avoid where possible if longevity is your aim. For instance, we have tested tattoos on the hip area, that is smooth, flat and never creased or rubbed and this lasts almost as long as a semi-permanent tattoo of 2 weeks.
  2. Avoid contact with oil / grease – these types of substances can remove the tattoo from the skin, handy when you do want to take it off though.
  3. Take care when applying – make sure to read the instructions thoroughly and apply the tattoo very carefully. Take extra care when dabbing the water on the skin and removing the backing paper and film, if any parts lift off apply a bit more water and hold back down on the skin until it fully fixes on.
  4. Allow the tattoo a good few hours to settle onto the skin – it will take time for the tattoo to properly stick to the skin, so avoid touching or rubbing during the early stages.
  5. Apply moisturiser / cream – you can do this straight after applying to be sure your skin does not dry up as the tattoo could otherwise flake. Keep moisturised each day and don’t let your skin get too dry.
  6. Shave / remove any hair and make sure your skin in clean and dirt free before applying – hair or dirt under the tattoo will obviously stop it from attaching to the skin, causing those area to be less sticky and peel off a lot sooner. You can even try exfoliating the skin before applying to help remove any dead skin cells that would flake away the tattoo.
  7. Avoid picking, touching, rubbing on clothing or bending the skin as much as possible – an obvious one and of course sometimes unavoidable, but the less contact the tattoo has the longer it will last.
  8. Avoid too much water contact where possible – our tattoos are completely waterproof, however, to reduce the chances of the tattoo flaking earlier, avoid too much water – such as swimming pools or the sea, where chemicals or salt can wear the tattoo down more.
  9. Use a setting spray and talc – a makeup setting spray can help to seal the tattoo. The talcum powder can be used to give the tattoo a matte finish and reduce the chance of the tattoo fading, also helping the tattoo to look more realistic.

REALISM TIP: A final tip it you want the tattoo to appear as realistic as possible too – apply the day before so that the tattoo has more time to settle down into the skin and for any shininess to fade down.
